Directions for Monday, October 20th

  • We will finish up outlines on Tuesday when I get back if you need to work on your outlines be sure that you complete the Gimp Task first. 

GIMP TASK
This Task will be graded at the start of class Tuesday
Gimp is a photo editing program that we will be looking at more in depth latter this year. This tutorial will give you an introduction to the program and you will create a "sig" your final product will look like the example below. 
  1. Get gimp open 
  2. Get headphones out of the closet.
  3. Go to Student shared folder/Computer Apps 1/ Gimp Folder/ Videos Folder/ and open "create sig" Video. Watch this video and work along with me. 
  4. When you are ready to insert your character "render" you will need to go to the gimp folder and inside the render folder you will find some options. 
  5. Assure you save your work I will be grading this on Tuesday. 
  6. Put headphones back. 
  7. If you finish assure you have your Outline and work cited pages done and ready to go for Tuesday.

Informative Speech Project

Today you will be selecting a topic to research and create an outline. This is an informative project that will consist of three parts. For now we will only be focusing on the outline. Latter in the semester you will be creating a PowerPoint and speech on this topic, so assure you choose a topic that you are truly interested in.
Tasks
1. Click Here For a list of possible topics (Browse this list to find a topic you are interested in)
2. Post the topic of your choice on the pagecast message board, in a complete sentence. 
3. Start a new word document save as "sources" Using your search skills start to do some research on your chosen topic. DO NOT TAKE ANY NOTES YET. Find some sources that you feel are good sources and paste the URL in to your word document.
4. After you have done some research on your topic try to come up with the three sub topics for your chosen issue.
Example-  Mountain Bike.
1.History.
2.opportunies for ridding while living in Montana.
3.  Future of the sport
Again by the end of the period you should have posted your topic on the message board, have a word document with at least 5 sources that you think are good sources, and brainstormed three sub points that will support your stance. See example above.
Tuesday we will be discussing how to evaluate sources.

Directions for Tuesday

Columns and Sections
Today's' assignment you will be working with columns and sections. 

Follow the directions on the sheet. You will need to use section and column breaks. 

Section Breaks- (insert continuous section breaks)
Column Breaks- Sends you to the top of the next column
Columns- Formant- Columns- and choose the number of columns you want. 

Your test will be on Thursday we will review on Wednesday.

Directions for Monday 9/15 & Tuesday 9/16

Monday
1. Finish up your calendar assignment in publisher.
2. We will now be starting word. In the shared folder there is a video called "letterhead&Formatting"
3. Get headphones from the closet, the "Then Do" sheet from lectern, and open the word file titled "Then do" from the shared folder before you watch the video.
Monday's Assignments
1. Calendar
2. save as "Personal Letterhead"
3. save as "Then Do " 

Tuesday Tables
Today you will be working on another video tutorial. In the shared folder find the video titled "tables".  Stop: before you watch the video get headphones from the closet and the resume sheet from the lectern. 

Tuesday's Assignments 
1. save as "resume"
2. save as "application"

We will probably finish up "application" on Wednesday. If you have any questions or problems please post in the comments for this post.

Trivia Newsletter

You are to create a newsletter that covers random trivia facts about a topic of your choice. Your news letter must be at least four pages. You must make use of the various tasks we have covered thus far in class.

Grading will consist of…….

Layout: did you customize your newsletter or simply use the pre-loaded layout? Did you make use of design gallery objects, photos, clip art, Drop Cap.

Content: Is your content relevant and well organized. Your content should be easy for the reader to navigate.

Work Cited: On the back page of your news letter you must cite the web pages you use to obtain your information. This can be just a simple list of the URLs.

Your Newsletter must include the following features
  • Word Art
  • Formatted Pictures 
  • Drop Caps
  • Design Gallery Objects
  • Auto Shape
  • Original design template in the top right corner of first page
  • Formatted Text Boxes (border, fill etc.)

Instructions for Week of Feb 26th - 29th

STORY PROJECT FOR POWERPOINT

For this project you will be creating a visual story using PowerPoint. . I will give you some info to start the story and the rest is up to you! Be creative add color and sound. I WILL GRADE ON YOUR PROGRESS MONDAY AND I EXPECT SOME GOOD WORK.

Story Information
Frank is 35 and lives at home with his mom in Panama City Florida. Frank works at the local golf course driving the ball cart. But Frank has something else planed, a treasure hunt of sorts. One day at the golf course an old timer gave frank a treasure map. The map takes Frank to the island of Borneo. What is the treasure? And what kind of adventures will Frank encounter? THIS IS UP TO YOU

Hints:You may want to Google Borneo to get some ideas. You must include some of the culture and stories about the places he travels to. Use animation, sound , clipart, ms paint pictures to bring this story to life! BE CREATIVE. 10 slides, Microphones are in the drawer under the homework bins.

Grading Criteria Checklist:

  1. At least 10 slides are required
  2. Use of sound- you can add in voices using the as a microphone there are also sounds on the Microsoft website that you can use
  3. Integrating MS Paint- you can import images you create in paint to your PowerPoint.
    Use of animation: you can animate objects and make the use of motion paths to bring your story to life. For example you could show a plane flying from one place to another.
  4. Story is easy to follow, good use of backgrounds, color and the story plays with timing. Or the story could be interactive.
  5. Integrated culture into your story

Outline: I have left you an example on the lectern that a senior did last year. This should help you understand what is expected in your outlines. Remember to have them typed printed and turned in to the bin on Friday.

Work Cited and PowerPoint: If you finish your outlines early work on these. Remember no paragraphs in your PowerPoint.
